YOUTH MENTORING ADVOCACY PROJECT (YMAP)
YMAP is a program designed for youth between the ages of (13-18) years-old and incorporates a one-on-one mentoring contract between the youth and an adult mentor. Also group sessions and group field trips are taken to build relationships between mentees and mentors. Youth enrolled in YMAP show improvement in academic performance, behavioral and social skills, and overall maturation. In addition, our mentees learn how to become advocates for youth related issues.
SAT CAMP
This program is designed for high school juniors and seniors. Quarterly sessions are held for a period of six weeks in an effort to prepare students to take the SAT examination. Typically, 20 – 25 students are enrolled each quarter. Since the inauguration of the Camp in the spring of 2009, student participants show, on average, a 150 point increase in their overall score.

Participants will engage in structured learning and recreational activities. In addition, participants will go on field trips that expose them to varied cultural heritages and traditions including Hispanic, Jewish and Asian cultures. Students will spend time on daily reading assignments, sampling from great literary writers, heroes and she-roes.
LEARNING LAB
The LFLC has a full service media and technology lab that services youth, seniors, and the community. Presently, the lab is being redesigned to service 160 students enrolled in the New Heights Charter School, a K-8 institution housed in the LFLC. The lab will continue to serve as a training space for seniors and members from the community who desire to improve their computer and media skills.
FAMILY ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
The Lincoln Family Life Center in collaboration with the Institute for Black Parenting is offering Pathway Too… Family Enrichment.
Family Enrichment is a parent education & support program that helps families move from struggle to cooperation. The evidence based curriculum, “breakthrough Parenting” by Dr. Jayne Major of UCLA serves as a the foundation for the 30 hours of certified advance parent education that is accepted by Los Angeles Family Court, Foster Care, Adoptions, Probation, and LAUSD.
Family Enrichment was also created to meet our community’s need for understanding and emotional support while caring for children. In our classes parent share their victories and failures, vent their anger and joys and provide resources and insights that benefit everyone who attend. Parents leave the classes feeling energized and ready to continue their journey “equipped” because there is a sense of being prepared, understood and supported - something that may have not been there in the beginning of their journey on the road called “Caring for Children.”
Family Enrichment classes have open enrollment and are divided into Sessions I & II. Each Session has five (5) classes that are three (3) hours each. Sessions I & II, (30 hours of training) must be completed for all court ordered parenting classes. Letters of participation and completion are provided, as well as, certificates on request at the end of each session that shows the classes attended.

Our initial efforts, however, will focus on education intervention through advocating and providing hands- on support to foster care high school graduates enrolling in college.
Five districts in the Los Angeles area are weaving a web of interagency support to ensure that groups of at risk high school students do not slip through the cracks, but that the groups of students graduate and go forward to pursue college career.
